I think we can all agree that there is no need to described a scorched iron. We all know and felt the smell when accidentally burning the fabric. However, you don’t need to despair and run to the store to buy another one. In this article, you will find 2 easy and very effective DIY solutions for cleaning a scorched iron. It is all about the sole plates; if you follow closely the instructions you can manage to salvage your iron.
Before getting into the cleaning process, there are a few things you should do first. Thus, when you notice your iron plates are burnt, unplug it immediately. Then, start removing any fabric left on the bottom of the iron. If it is too difficult, using a pair of tweezer will make things easier. It is very important to lift the small debris left of the melted fabric but you should do this after the iron has cooled completely. Next, simply clean the scorched iron with one of the following DIY solutions.
1. Lime juice & baking soda
Simply squeeze a lime and start adding enough baking soda in order to make a thick paste.
Next, apply the paste on the sole plates of your iron.
Let the paste do its own thing for about 10 minutes. Don’t forget, your iron should be cold.
After 10 minutes, check to see if it is working on a small patch of the sole plates. You need to check if the paste is lifting the stain because if it is not you should leave it on for a longer time, about 10 minutes more.
Then, after you notice the paste has done its thing, use a rag to gently rub the lime and soda paste.
Lastly, using a damp cloth, wipe off the excess paste and allow the iron to air dry.
2. Vinegar & baking soda
First off, prepare a mixture using a half cup of water with a half cup of vinegar.
Next, dip a cotton ball into this mixture and get rid of the excess.
Then, on the damp cotton ball, make sure you also sprinkle a little bit of baking soda.
Now it is time to gentle begin scrubbing the burn stains by making circular motions and a little bit of pressure.
Lastly, simply wipe off the excess with a damp cloth.
These 2 DIY solutions to clean a scorched iron will both work because the lime juice and vinegar are the most natural acids you could use alongside baking soda. The reaction makes for a great fantastic stain removal.
