Dust and synthetic fibers, all kinds of stains, along with the rubber bobbins give an unpleasant smell to each carpet, smells that comes stronger in winter, when the rooms are less ventilated.

And coming home after a harsh day at work, and being hit by a strong stinky odor, isn’t exactly what you expect for a cozy evening.

Personally, I have no carpets in my house, because it’s easier when I do the cleaning – problem solver (lol)! But, if you are a dealing with a smelly carpet or rug, don’t throw it or send it to the dry cleaning, just read the lines below because it will be extremely useful for you.

Baking soda

Baking soda is great for neutralizing unpleasant odors, and removing that bad carpet odor makes no exception.

How to proceed?

Just sprinkle over the carpet a considerable amount of baking soda, and let it act overnight. The next day, just vacuum well the carpet and the stink is gone!

Vinegar to combat that unbearable odor

If you have pets or just an old beautiful carpet that you haven’t cleaned it in a while, I’m sure that the smell is irritating your nose. But you can save your carpet from dying with the following solution:

  • 2 cups of hot water
  • 2 cups of vinegar
  • half a cup of baking soda

Mix all the ingredients until the baking soda is dissolved, add the solution in a spray bottle and spray it over the carpet. Let it dry and ventilate well the room.

Important! Before spraying the vinegar solution vacuum the carpet very well.
