We can say that baking soda, commonly used in cooking, has a 1001 uses, having a lot of benefits in our everyday life. Baking soda should not miss from anyone’s home, especially if you are looking for natural alternatives to chemical cleaners.
Why you should use baking soda for home maintenance
There are thousands of efficient natural recipes, but in this case we are referring to baking soda, which can be used in various ways to keep the house clean, without exposing yourself to harmful substances.
Baking soda is an excellent ally that neutralizes and eliminates odors from almost any type of material. It can also be used to remove bad odors in rooms or to absorb grease stains or oil stains. Dissolved in water, baking soda can replace detergent to clean various surfaces.
In almost every case, mix 1 liter of water with a quarter cup of baking soda, but in some cases it may be necessary to use specific measurements and proportions. You’ll need a sponge or a brush. Cleaning with this natural product will not require much effort.
Baking soda does not destroy water drains and you’ll protect the environment by using biodegradable and non-toxic cleaning products.
How to use baking soda around the house
Cleaning the pipes: Special products for cleaning the pipes that we found on the market are very dangerous and should be used in certain doses. You shouldn’t inhale or consume them. Pour baking soda directly into the pipe and add vinegar. Let the composition stand for at least 15 minutes. You will see how bubbles are formed due to reaction between the two components. Rinse with hot water.
Cleaning toys: Children’s objects get dirty quickly and can contain many bacteria and viruses. Dip them in a bowl with a mixture of 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 4 liters of water (leave them in this solution overnight and wash them in the morning). If objects are very dirty, use a sponge or a brush.
A healthy softener: Fabric softeners we found in stores give clothes a fragrant smell, but it creates a fat layer over the fabric fibers to offset the action of soaps or detergents. Use a cup of baking soda to eco-wash the clothes, but it can also be used as a conditioner applied directly into the washing machine. Remember that soda is not a detergent!
Absorb odors: One of the qualities of soda is that it helps neutralize organic odors such as the smell of animals, food or perspiration odor. It can be used to eliminate foot or shoes odor, bad smells inside the laundry basket, dog’s pillow, cat litter, fridge etc. But baking soda will not have any effect on synthetic odors such as perfumes, tobacco or odorants.
Carpet cleaner solution: Add a generous amount of baking soda on the carpet, leave it overnight and clean it in the morning with a vacuum or with a broom. This is an excellent opportunity to remove dog or cat odors and food or drinks stains. The same machine can clean carpet.
Oven cleaning solution: Simply sprinkle some water inside the oven and then cover the area with a few tablespoons of baking soda. Close the oven door and leave it act overnight. If the oven wasn’t very dirty, the next day you’ll see that surface shining. If the stains are old, you have to wash the area with a damp cloth, using soap and water.
Solution against cockroaches: If these insects invaded the house, use a mixture of baking soda and sugar (a tablespoon of each, in equal parts), and put it in the room where cockroaches gathered.
Keeping the food fresh: If you put a little baking soda on a clean glass jar and you leave it in the refrigerator, you’ll keep the food fresher for a long time.
