Very playful, craving for attention, cherished and loyal, cats can be a pleasant company for anyone. But, often, the advantage of having a cat comes along with unpleasant things, such as that pungent cat smell.

There are chemical solutions that you can use, but which can be irritating to both you and your pet, so I recommend you try less harmful options.

I had a kitten, once, and was my little joy, until it started to grow and the urine smell was, literally, killing me! But this thought me, how to clean the mess and disinfect the area, leaving a pleasant smell behind, instead of that pungent cat urine smell. So, here’s what you have to do!

Dry the area

If the cat forgets about the litter and decides to pee on the carpet or on the couch, you need to dry the area with paper towels or a cloth. I suggest using paper towels, because they absorb quickly! Before cleaning the area, it’s important to absorb all excess liquid. Thus, sanitation will be easier.

Now, prepare a baking soda and vinegar solution

Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 cups of vinegar, and then dilute it in 2 cups of water. Apply the mixture on the urine spot and let it act for a few minutes, and then remove it with a sponge soaked in water. You can add 2-3 drops of essential oil (your choice) in the above mixture.
